Cudos to the three local teams remaining in the playoffs, New Hartford, Mt.Markham and Dolgeville.
Lets break things down a bit. Starting in Class A, the Spartans now must beat Carthage for a section title. Earlier this season, the Comets beat New Hartford 28-14. However, both teams are improved since then. The Spartans are led by their passing attack but can run the ball quite well with Joe Carcone and a healthy Byron Abraham. The key will be the defense for the Spartans. They need to play perfect, even better than they played in the win over Whitesboro.
Mt.Markham will have their toughest test of the season as well in facing Bishop Ludden. However, they are playing some of the best defense of the season. Until someone figures out how to stop Luke Phillips and company on offense....the Mustangs will be Class C champs.
In Class D, how do you stop Onondaga? You play perfect. Dolgeville has that potential. Right now there is no team better suited to face the Tigers than Dolgeville. They have all the weapons firing on offense. Will the defense be able to keep up with Latavius Murray? You can bet they will get it their best shot. What do you think? Post your comments.

Latavius Murray and Luke Phillips mentioned in the same blog?
Murray is unquestionably a great running back, and will go to the school of his choice, possibly Boston College. Murray is 6'3" and 215 lbs with over 1,800 yards rushing (8 games and 1 forfeit) against all D schools plus C Bishop Ludden. Phillips is 6'3" and 205 lbs with over 2,000 yards (9 games) against all C schools plus A Cortland. Some of the D competition that Onondaga faced is better than the C competition that Mt. Markham played, and Ludden is probably a better team than Cortland as MM will see this week.
Jason, how much better of a prospect is Murray than Phillips, and does Phillips have a shot at a D1 scholarship?
They may be in the same blog, different leagues. It would be interesting to see them go head to head though. As for how much better is one than the other, hard to compare since they don't have any common opponents. Murray is a talent there is no doubt. He's a slasher with power. Phillips came on strong his senior season. He runs over the opposition but has developed great field vision. He has a great line too.
Division I would depend on his grades and interest. I hope he plays football in college because he is the best running back I've watched play this season.
go mustangs great win in saquoit....even with the rain you did superb. lukesky walker and the rest of the mustangs we are all proud of yu guys and girls...remember that team still stands for: together everybody acheives more. youve made the final dance now get out there and play you best game in the end you will prevail...god bless you all.......
Mt. Markham is deffinately going to have their hands full with Bishop Ludden. They should be ok if the defense continues to play like a bunch of animals. There were a couple of kids from Thousand Islands who got hit so hard I don't think they knew their name for the rest of the game. If the team plays together like they have all season the will have a great shot at winning the title. I hope that playing a Syracuse area school with Syracuse Ref's doesn't cause any complications.
What about Joe Carcone, if he grows a bit more and beefs up 20 more pounds he could end up a great back in his junior and senior seasons.
good luck mustangs, we will all be there for you guys on saturday..every single one of you guys including the varsity and jv players have gotten you guys where you are today.even if you dont get a chance to get in saturday, remember that you all have practiced hard to get there...and you are all part of that team. as for you cheerleaders great job this year, you are also a important part of that team...get the crowd into the game and that will pump up the entire team..good luck and god blwss you all....we love you guys and girls...GETER DONE....
new hartford left it all on the field against wboro they celebrated like they won the section 3 title. you celebrated too early. carthage will beat new hartford, because of that. go carthage
Predictions from syracuse:
NH 7 - Carthage 21: Although NH has been on a run i see carthage getting the sectional title, they seem like a complete team that is very balanced.
C- MT. Markham 13 - Bishop Ludden 42: Daquan Grobsmith will be the factor in this one. i predict he will use his speed against the mustangs. he will have around 200 yards. although markham seems to be the complete team, the high powered offense of Bishop ludden will blow the mustangs away.
OCS 52 - DCS 6: Latavius murray will run wild over DCS. amassing around 200 yards. DCS cannot compare with ocs right now. OCS has too much power and speed for dolgeville to even come close to. ocs has a better line and better backs than DCS.
Onondaga vs. Dolgeville is going to be one heck of a game. Should Dolgeville continue to play like they have, Onondaga will be sweating bullets. Dolgeville has been notorious this season for what I like to call the "shock and awe" method. Once they start racking up the points, there is no stopping them. Also, trying to penetrate Dolgeville's defensive line COULD prove to be very challenging for even Onondaga. If there is any team out there that could take a championship from Onondaga, Dolgeville is that team.
Pre game prediction, Onondaga-28 Dolgeville-14.
42-13 Ludden?!?!
I don't think so.
Mount Markham is a very strong team and I honestly can't see a score like that at the end of their game. I'm sure it's going to be one great game, but look for Markham to pull it off. If their defense comes out with the fire that they had last week against TI, they are going to be unstoppable. Oh, and I don't think anyone can stop Phillips.
Good luck to all teams this weekend!
syracuse wake up and smell the coffee the boys and girls from mt markham are ready to play.stick together and remember that team still stands for :together everyone acheives more....go mustangs...luv you all
dcs over onadaga 23-10
I saw many similar predictions coming out of Syracuse this week. All they talk about out there is the skill of Murray, the speed of Grobsmith, and the yardage records of Ross (from Westhills). They don't even know Phillips exists or the strength and discipline of the Mt. Markham line or their hard hitting defense. They talk about how MM got lucky against Cortland, and other than that, did not face much competition. There is a lot of trash talk coming from Syracuse.
I'm sure the players and coaches from Ludden know about MM, and will be ready to play. Much to the credit of the MM fan base, we've been quiet and will let our boys do the talking with their game on Saturday. Good luck Mustangs!
Go NH this will be your touhest game clearly, but play defense and youll stay in the game NH:21 Carthage:20 and o ya let me guess that the author of comment 7 is a jealous whitesboro fan.
Go Mustangs!
MM defense collapsed after leading 20-0.
