What a weekend for our local teams. Four of the five section finals had area football teams playing for titles, and all four won!.
In Class A, the only local/local battle, New Hartford held off Camden 42-35. The Spartans, who by the way, didn't I say they would be here, scored on all five of their first half possessions. A shootout it was indeed. Cudos to Camden, they pulled out every trick in the book and almost pulled off the comeback. If Aaron Fiorini isn't coach of the year I don't know who is. Although, Bob Jones should get a vote. He lost 18 seniors to graduation and still won a title. The Spartans now face Corning West on Friday at 8pm at C-NS.
In Class B. Anyone who thought Oneida WASN'T going to win a section title...shame on you. This team was built to win this game three years ago. Bill Carinci is a great guy and a great motivator. Ryan Kramer is one heck of an athlete. They won that game even without star running back Rick Rossi. That just goes to show you how good Kramer and that whole team really is. Next up for them is Waverly from Section IV. That game is Saturday, 6pm at C-NS.
In Class C, I told all who would listen at the start of the season Westmoreland was primed for their second title in three years. Glad to see they proved me right. Tim Gates and company are playing championship football and so far, are not getting too full of themselves. Now it's right back to work as they gear up for Elmira Notre Dame on Saturday, 12pm at C-NS.
Finally in Class D, all I can say is WOW! What a finish to the Dolgeville game. Believe it or not, I like Chris Connolly's call for two with two minutes to go. His philosophy has always been not to put the all the emphasis on one kid for one point. So it was win or lose...AS A TEAM. It was gutsy and now a thing of the past. The onside kick recovery and subsequent 48 yard score by Andrew Johnston sealed the deal for Dolgeville. It's their first title since 2002 and coach Connolly's first as a head coach. I don't think I'm speaking out of turn when I say the town has been, shall we say, critical of coach over the years. Maybe now they can embrace him as he now has a title to call his own. They now move on to face the top ranked team in the state in Walton. That game is Friday at 5pm at C-NS.
What are your thoughts on these games. Leave a post, love to see what you have to say!

New Hartford's offense is no fire right now, they should keep on rolling with a win tonight.
